What is Self-Concept?
A set of relatively stable perceptions individuals hold about themselves. That is unique about you
What is Self-Esteem?
A personal evaluation of self-worth
What is Reflected Appraisal?
The concept of Reflected Appraisal describe how individuals develop an image of themselves based on the way they think others view them
What are significant others?
People whose opinions an individual especially values
What is a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy?
A self-fulfilling prophecy occurs when a person’s expectation of an outcome and that person’s subsequent behavior make the outcome more likely to occur than would otherwise have been the case.
What is Attribution?
The process of attaching meaning to behavior
Self-Serving Bias? or Fundamental Attribution Error?
An attempt to convince themselves and others that the positive face they show the world is true, people tend to judge themselves in the most generous terms possible.
Halo Effect?
When someone impresses you favorably in some way you are likely to assume they have other positive qualities as well - an attribution error that scholars call the halo effect
Sex?
Sex is a biological term usually classified as male or female
Gender?
A socially constructed set of expectations about what it means to be masculine, feminine and so on.
Cisgender?
Describes a person whose current gender is the same as the sex attributed to them at birth
Transgender?
A person’s gender is different from the biological sex attributed to them at birth
Androgynous?
Combining masculine and feminine traits
Undifferentiated?
Neither masculine or feminine
Emotional Intelligence?
A person’s ability to understand and manage their own emotions and to deal effectively with the emotions of others
