Chapter 2 Terms Flashcards
IETF
An organization that sets standards for how systems communicate over the Internet.
Frame
Generated at the Data Link Layer of the OSI Model and is issued to the network at the Physical layer.
ISOC
Helps to establish technical standards for the Internet.
ICANN
Maintains and assigns IP addresses.
IANA
Manages IP address allocation and the Domain Name System.
802.2
The IEEE standard for error and flow control in data frames.
802.3
The IEEE standard for Ethernet networking devices and data handling (using the CSMA/CD access method)
802.11
The IEEE standard for wireless networking.
MAC
The lower sublayer of the Data Link layer. This sublayer appends the physical address of the destination computer onto the frame.
Encapsulate
The process of wrapping one layer’s PDU with protocol information so that it can be interpreted by a lower layer.
Data
The top 3 layers of the OSI Model transport this type of information.
LLC
The upper sublayer in the Data Link layer. This sublayer provides a common interface and supplies reliability and flow control services.
Bits and Signals
This is the type of information transported at Layer 1 of the OSI Model.
Frames
This is the type of information transported at Layer 2 of the OSI Model.
Packets and Datagrams
This is the type of information transported at Layer 3 of the OSI Model.
