Chapter 2 Questions Flashcards
What is the advantage of networking computers?
All information-except info that is specifically excluded-is available to whoever needs it, whenever they need it
What is the vital link between a computer processor and a network?
For wired networks, an Ethernet data port in the computer or a Network Interface Card (NIC)
Which is the most common cable used for desktop connections in LANs?
Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
Because most networks use two of the four pairs, why is it not possible to use the other pair for LAN connection?
Because of Balance Transmission, which sends equal but opposite signals down each wire. The wires carry opposite signals so the two wires cancel out the radiated signals and reduce interference. Therefore, without the second pair, you would get cross talk problems as well as break the 1/2inch rule.
