Q

What’s the conservation of mass theory?

A

Mass is never gained or lost in a chemical reaction, but when we burn magnesium (for example) the phlogiston escapes decreasing the mass

Q

How do metals react with oxygen?

A

They react forming metal oxides,

Magnesium+oxygen->magnesium oxide
2Mg+O2->2MgO

Q

What are metal oxides?

A

Bases, they react with acids and neutralise them. Some metal oxides dissolve in water to produce alkaline solutions
