14
Q

depletion-repletion studies

A
  • take a specific nutrient completely out of diet: if the nutrient is essential there will be a deficiency disease (e.g. iron deficiency anemia)
  • second step is to reintroduce the nutrient slowly and with small amounts: symptoms will reverse and we figure out what the minimum amount possible is

3) people with advanced degrees in nutrition
4) physicians

17
Q

registered dietitians (RD)

A
  • require a 4 year uni degree in nutritional sciences, plus additional internship training
  • accredited by dieticians of canada
  • can prescribe therapeutic diets
18
Q

nutritionists

A

anyone who studies nutrition in any capacity

- ranges from uni degree to online certificate

19
Q

people with advantaged degrees in nutrition

A
  • masters degree - 2 years
  • PhD degree - 3-7 years
  • can study clinical nutrition, community nutrition, basic science
20
Q

physicians

A
  • 25% of US med schools require only 1 nutrition course
  • ~ 20 hours
  • clinical nutrition specialization
