Chapter 2- Motion Flashcards
Physics
The study of matter and energy and the relationships between them.
Speed
Distance traveled divided by the time it took to travel that distance/how fast an object is moving
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity is changing
Position
The location of an object relative to the origin of the coordinate system
Velocity
Displacement divided by the time interval/how fast an object is moving
What is the difference between Speed and Velocity
Velocity has a set direction
Scalar
A quantities who description only contains a magnitude (how much)
Example of Scalar
Speed and Distance
Distance
The length of a path an object takes from initial to final position
Displacement
The distance between the starting and finishing positions
When are Distance and Displacement the same
When the motion is one way and dimensional
Average Velocity
Displacement divided by the time interval
Vector
A quantity that contains a certain direction
Example of Vector
Displacement and velocity
Instantaneous Velocity
The velocity of an object at any given moment
