Chapter 2 Living Processes in Unicellular ogranisms Flashcards
Examples of unicellular organisms?
Protozoa, Bacteria
Examples of protozoa?
Paramecium sp and Amoeba sp
How do unicellular organisms move?
Extending out is its pseudopodium, followed by the flow of cytoplasm ( Amoeba sp )
Rhythmic cilia beats ( Paramecium sp )
How do unicellular organisms respond to stimuli like chemicals and bright light
Moving away from it
How do unicellular organisms carry out respiration?
Simple diffusion
How do amoeba and paramecium sp eat?
Look at textbook pg 28
How do unicellular organisms grow?
synthesising new cytoplasm
Explain the process of excretion in unicellular organisms.
Carbon dioxide and ammonia are removed by diffusion
Through osmoregulation, water will diffuse by osmosis and fill the contractile vacuole.
When the vacuole expands to its maximum size, contraction occurs and water is excreted from time to time
What is osmoregulation / What is the use of the contractile vacuole?
Water is diffused by the process of osmosis and fills up the contractile vacuole. When it expands to its maximum size, it contracts and water is excreted from time to time. This process is known as osmoregulation
How do unicellular organisms reproduce in good conditions?
Reproduce via asexual reproduction or binary fission through mitosis
What are good conditions for unicellular organisms?
Plenty of food, suitable temperature, moist
How do unicellular organisms reproduce in bad condition
Conjugation
