Chapter 2 Fire Control & Preliminary Gunnery Flashcards
What are the fire control components and where are they located?
Position Interface Box (PIB) adjacent to AP Ready Box.
Turret Processor Unit (TPU) Under VC seat.
Inertial Navigation Unit (INU)
Missile Control System (MCS)
Gun Control Unit (GCU)
What does the Turret Processing Unit do?
Houses the Fire Control processor, and verifies that the system is ready to fire the selected weapon system. The Fire Control Processor then initiates a fire command to the Gun Control Unit (GCU).
What does the Gun Control Unit do?
Reports the status of the Feeder, Main Gun, and 25mm ready boxes to the TPU. To include selecting and firing the 25mm and 7.62 machine guns.
What does the Missile Control Subsystem do?
Provides dual target tracking, TOW missile tracking, and guidance for IBAS controls.
What does the Position Interface Box do?
Transmits Azimuth / Elevation of the 25mm and TOW to the TPU, which allows for animating IBAS HUD icons and tracking the turret azimuth in relation to the hull.
What does the Inertial Navigation Unit do?
Monitors the vehicle’s “attitude” and sends this information to the TPU for processing location data.
What does attitude mean?
Attitude is a combination of Roll, Pitch, and Yaw.
Why is attitude important?
Attitude is used to determine a ballistic solution necessary to hit targets and provides target location for external target hand off.
What major components affect Fire Control?
The Gunner's Sight Control Panel (GSCP) Combat Override Switch (COS) Remote Bi-ocular Display (RBD) Commander's Tactical Display (CTD) Gunner's Hand Station (GHS) System Control Box (SCB) Commander's Sight Control Panel (CSCP) Commander's Data Entry Tool (CDET) Commander's Hand Station (CHS)
What fire control components are on the Gunner’s Sight Control Panel (GSCP)?
Manual Range Knob and Laser Range Finder First/Last Return.
What fire control components are on the Gunner’s Hand Station (GHS)?
The Battlefield Combat Identification System (BCIS)/ Laser Range Finder (LRF) switch, AUTO TRK/AUTO PT switch, Gate Size Switch, Trigger switch, Palm switch, and DROP TRK switch.
What fire control components are on the System Control Box (SCB)?
Weapons, TOW, Turret, Gun, 7.62mm, and Grenade Launcher. Basically everything.
What fire control components are on the CSCP?
IBAS Auto Track/Point, Drop Track Switch, Gate Size Switch, and Fire Control Back Up Switch (deprecated).
