Chapter 2 (Cellular Respiration) Flashcards
What does cellular work include?
Chemical reactions that occur in a cell
What does energy maintain in all living organisms?
~ To grow
~ To excrete
~ To feed
~ To move
~ To sense environment
~ To reproduce
What is the cellular respiration’s chemical equasion?
C6 H12 O 6+ O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine-tri-phosphate
What is Cellular respiration?
A process whereby energy-rich molecules are broken down gradually to release energy
In what process do bacteria not need oxygen to survive?
Anaerobic respiration
What are the two types of fermentation?
Lactic acid fermentation & Alcoholic fermentation.
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose = Small amount of energy + carbon dioxide + ethanol
What is alcoholic fermentation?
Where glucose is converted into ethanol by bacteria and yeast cells to produce products like beer, wine & bread
What is lactic acid fermentation?
It allows human muscle cells to compensate for the lack of oxygen.
