Chapter 1 (Photosynthesis) Flashcards
Name the seven forms of visable light.
X-rays
UV rays
Visible-light
Infrared
Microwave
Radio Waves
Gamma Rays
What are chloroplasts?
Small organelles that are practically filled with molecules called chlorophyll.
What is chlorophyll?
Green pigmentation in plants that obsorb light energy from the sun to produce food.
What happens during photosynthesis?
Green plants absorbs the radiant energy to manufacture organic food, namely glucose.
What does a plant use to create oxygen?
Water and Carbon Dioxide.
What are the two very important energy conversions that take place during photosynthesis?
~ Radiant energy(light) is converted into Chemical Potential energy(Organic food).
~ Inorganic substances(H2O & CO2) are converted into glucose.
Plants need four raw materials to photosynthesise.
NAME them.
~ Carbon Dioxide
~ Water
~Chlorophyll
~Radiant energy
Products of photosynthesis are…
~ Oxygen
~ Glucose
What other organic foods do plants convert glucose into?
~ Starch
~ Protiens
~ Cellulose
~ Oils
What types of reaction occurs in the sun when energy is formed?
Nuclear Fusion
Why is photosynthesis essential to life on earth?
~ To produce organic food
~ To produce oxygen
~To produce natural resources
