chapter 2 cells Flashcards
1
Q
Function of Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
A
transports proteins made by ribosomes to Golgi apparatus for secretion
2
Q
function of ribosomes on RER
A
synthesise proteins for secretion out of the cell
3
Q
function of smooth endoplasmic reticulum
A
synthesise fats
carries out detoxification in liver
4
Q
function of ribosomes lying freely in cell
A
synthesise protein for use in the cell
5
Q
how are SER and RER different
A
SER does not have ribosomes = does not synthesise proteins
6
Q
function of Golgi apparatus
A
- chemically modify substances made by the endoplasmic reticulums
- packages modified substances in vescicles for secretion of cell
7
Q
how do substances get secreted out of the cell?
A
- small vesicles containing substances made by ERs pinched off ERs
- vesicles fuse with GA = release their contents
- GA modifies/repackages substances into secretory vesicles
- secretory vesicles pinch off from GA = move to CSM
- secretory vesicles fuse with CSM = release contents out of cell
8
Q
how are plant and animal cells different?
A
- P cells have large central vacuole vs A cells have numerous small vacuoles
- (typical) P cells have chloroplasts, none in A cells
- centrioles present in A cells but not P cells
- cell wall present in P cells but not A cells
