Chapter 2 Acoustics Summery Questions Flashcards
How are acoustics addressed by law?
Designers must make reasonable efforts to provide privacy where personal information is shared verbally.
What characteristics of sound are measurable? What measurements are generally acceptable?
??
How would you deal with impact sound? Echoes? Transmission of airborne noise between spaces? Speech intelligibility? Speech privacy?
Impact sound–
Echoes–use a material that will absorb or break up the sound
Transmission of airborne noise between spaces–natural cork, man-made acoustical tiles
Speech intelligibility–
Speech privacy–
Why is it important to know not just the sound rating material but also the way it was tested?
Because there are multiple methods for performing the same test and different constructions used to hold tested material into position and all of these factors affect the results. If two materials are tested in different manners, the results may not be comparable.
Can you think of environments where the following would be special concerns?:
a. Distracting speech
b. The need for speech privacy
c. Motor noise
d. Loud live or recorded entertainment or instruction
e. Airborne sound in a space that should be contained?
