Predicate Noun
A predicate noun is a single noun or a noun phrase that renames the subject of a sentence and follows a form of the verb “to be” or a linking verb
Predicate Adjective
A predicate adjective is very similar to a predicate noun in that it completes the predicate and follows an intransitive verb.
Linking Verb
A linking verb is a verb which connects a subject to its predicate without expressing an action. A linking verb is used to re-identify or describe its subject.
If you can substitute am, is, or are and the sentence still sounds logical it is a linking verb
Subjective Complement
A subject complement is the adjective, noun, or pronoun that follows a linking verb.
Only linking verbs can have subject complements. If the verb is action, then the word that answers the question what? or who? after the subject + verb is a direct object
