Chapter 2 Flashcards
Define Data Warehouse
A system that collects, organizes, centralizes, and manages data.
Define Cloud Computing
It allows for the sharing of software, information, data, and services to computer and technology devices on command
Define Resource pooling
Allows the cloud provider to use the same resources to serve multiple consumers using a multitenant model.
Define Rabid Elasticity
This means the cloud environment can grow or shrink at any time, based on the needs of the customer.
Define Software as a Service (SaaS)
It is a model whereby a cloud consumer can access applications on demand that have been developed and run on a cloud infrastructure.
Define Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Is a software model that allows application developers to build applications in the cloud.
Define Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
Is a software model that allows the cloud consumer to provision servers, storage, networking, operating systems, and other computer resources on demand.
Define Anything as a Service (XaaS)
This can be any IT function that is converted to a cloud model for use by the organization. It works by providing a platform where users can access IasS, PaaS and SaaS providers as well as their on-premise services. Sometimes also called “Everything as a service”
Define Private Cloud
Private cloud is used exclusively by a single organization.
Define Community Cloud
Community cloud is used by a community of customers who have similar needs. Similar to private cloud but it involves more than one organization.
Define Public Cloud
A public cloud is a model offered by a third party and is intended for use by anyone.
Define Hybrid Cloud
A hybrid cloud is some combination of a private, community or public cloud.
Define Enterprise Resource Planning
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems help companies coordinate their back-office business activities, such as accounting, procurement, human resources and more.
Define Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
CRM software helps businesses manage their relationships and interactions with their customers and future customers.
Define Database
A database is a collection of data that is stored electronically in a computer system that can be easily accessed by other computer systems and by humans.
Define Structured Data
Structured data is organized in meaningful ways so that it can be easily retrieved and modified.
Define Unstructured Data
Unstructured data does not adhere to a data model. It has no identifiable rules or structure and isn’t easily stored or processed.
Define Relational Database (RDBMS)
RDBMS is a collection of structured information that is related to each other. The data sets within this database can be linked to other data sets and allows the users to easily manage and process the data.
Define Electronic Document and Record Management systems (EDRMS)
EDRMS is a software system that manages electronic documents, records and data from creation to disposal.
Define Content Management System (CMS)
A CMS is software that provides a way for users with little to no technical knowledge to create a website and manage, modify, share and upload content to the website.
Define Financial System
A financial system manages the accounting and budgeting aspects of a business.
Define the role of a project manager
A project manager’s core function is project integration. A project manager leads the project team and oversees all the work required to complete the project goals to the satisfaction of the stakeholders.
What skills are needed to manage a project beyond the technical knowledge of the product?
Key general management skills include, leadership, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, organization and time management.
Define ESG factors that influence project management activities.
ESG stands for environmental, social and governance factors that may influence project management activities. Compliance and privacy considerations as well as legal and regulatory requirements are part of ESG factors.
Define PII and SPII
PII is personally identifiable information that may be used to distinguish or trace an individuals’ identity. SPII, sensitive personally identifiable information, data is a subset of PII and on its own has the potential to cause harm, inconvenience, embarrass, or cause harm to an individual’s reputation. PII data becomes SPII data when it’s linked with SPII data.
Define Data Confidentiality
Data confidentiality involves protecting sensitive data and data types in order to protect individual identities and personal information relating to those individuals.
Explain legal and regulatory impacts on a project
Legal and regulatory impacts must be defined and accounted for when preforming project management. Make certain to ask subject matter experts (SME) in your organization about these requirements for your project. Don’t forget industry-specific regulations or those related to information technology projects.
Define information technology
IT involves the use of computers and computer networks to create, store, process and transmit electronic information.
Define IT infrastructure
Infrastructure consists of all the hardware, software, servers, networks, data centers, and more that comprise and support IT activities for an organization. Infrastructure enables the organization to provide IT services to it’s employees and customers.
Explain the two most common types of computer networks
A computer network is the collection of devices connected to each other using cables or wireless communication to enable the sharing and exchange of data and services. A LAN is a local area network used in a specific location such as a school or business. The LAN connects the technology and devices used by the organization to each other so they can share information, utilize software and services, and communicate with each other. A WAN is a network that covers a larger area and may be used by businesses that have more than one location.
Describe computer storage
Computer storage is a hardware device where digital data and content are stored and accessed by users or programs. It consists of primary storage, also known as internal memory, such as RAM and ROM; and secondary storage, also known as external memory, such as hard drives, flash drives, memory cards and more.
Define a data warehouse
A data warehouse is a system that collects, organizes, centralizes and manages data that is used and analyzed by managers and executives to make decisions about the business.
Name the four software systems common to IT
The four systems are ERP, CRM, EDRMS and CMS.
