For English settlers, land was the basis of independence and liberty. Explain the reasoning behind that concept and how it differed from the Indians conception of land.
The reasoning for independence and liberty being the basis of land for English settlers was because owning land gave the men control over their labor. It gave them the right to vote, the promise of immediate access to land lured free settlers, and freedom dues that included potential immigrants to sign contracts as indentured servants. Land was seen as wealth and power. This is different from the Indians concept of land because the land wasn’t owned by anymore and they were free to use it.
Compare and Contrast settlement patterns, treatment of Indians, and religion of the Spanish and English in the Americas.
The similarity between Spanish and english was they had the same religion. They both had an aim to spread christianity to the new world people. Both were a danger to indians ways of life. They both treated the Indians cruel but had different ways of doing so. The spanish was more in it for the gold and would kill Indians that were in the way of that. But, the English people wanted to use them for their resources. They used up their forest, took their land, and took their tools, crops, technology. The english settled in middle colonies, chesapeake, and some farm land areas in New england.
