He took office on September 6th,1901, when president William McKinley was assassinated by Leon Czolgosz at the Pan-American exposition. He was just 42 years old at the time when he took he presidential oath of office. He set about the very daunting task of reform almost immediately.

Passed in 1903 forbade shipping companies from accepting rebates, or more given back in return for business. Politicians as well as railroad owners supported this new law.
Hepburn Act
Congress passed this act in thee year of 1906 which authorized the ICC to set railroad rates and to regulate other companies engaged in interstate commerce, such as pipelines and ferries.

He published his novel called The jungle which depicted the wretched and unsanitary conditions at a meatpacking plant in 1906.
Meat inspection act
One of the new consumer-protection laws required the federal government inspection of meat shipped across state lines.
Pure Food And Drug Act
This law forbade the manufacture, sale, or transportation of food and patent medicine containing harmful ingredients. The law also required that containers of food and medicines carry ingredients labels.

He was a very strong conservationist, forester, and a friend of Roosevelt.

The process of making damaged lands productive again.
National Park services
Roosevelt doubled the number of national parks. He created 16 national monuments and founded 51 wildlife refuges. This newly protected territory included the Grand Canyon and the Petrified Forest in Arizona & the Anasazi ruins at Mesa verde, Colorado. THIS SERVICE WAS CREATED IN 1916.
