Describe in detail how the Panama Canal came about.
- Panama was a province of Columbia owned by a French company
- Roosevelt believed a canal through Panama would benefit the world
- US would build it and let everyone use it; they even offered to buy and compensate Columbia for the land, but they refused
- They staged a rebellion that in turn gave Panama its own country-ship
