Chapter 19 - Health Care Flashcards

1
Q

What is the Technology Equipment Center (TEC)?

A

The TEC houses the main networking equipment and the application servers and data storage devices that serve the building.
Each hospital shall have at least one TEC that is used exclusively for data storage, processing, and networking.

Q

What is the Technology Distribution Room (TDR)?

A

The TDR provides a secure, flexible, and easily managed location for structured cabling systems, network electronics, clinical systems, nurse call systems, and other technology and communication equipment throughout the building.

It’s a place for network systems and equipment such as nurse call, AV, security, etc..

Q

What is the minimum number and size of a Technology Distribution Room (TDR) in a hospital?

A

There shall be a minimum of one TDR on each floor. TDR shall be on the same floor as the work area served.
All TDRs shall have a minimum inside dimension of ~3.7m x 4.3 m (12ft x 14ft)

Q

What are the components of nurse call devices?

A
  • Initiation devices: used to create an electronic signal that is sent to the central equipment or notification devices or to initiate an alarm or event
  • Headend equipment: used for electrical or electronic processing and routing of the alarm and signal between initiation devices and notification devices
  • Notification devices: used for converting the electronic signal into a recognizable alarm to notify the appropriate supervising staff of an alarm or event

Q

What is an active RFID system in a hospital?

A

Active Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems typically operate in the 2.4 to 5.8 GHz frequency with a range of ~1 to 2m (3.28 to 6.6ft)
Allows for continuous two-way communication between an RFID tag and an antenna. Useful for real-time tracking and locating of assets.
Requires power source in the RFID tag.
Used to track patients, staff, and certain pieces of equipment that move frequently.

Q

What is a passive RFID system in a hospital?

A

Passive systems do not require a power source in the RFID tag. They communicate by exciting the RFID tag when it interacts with the energy produced by the antenna it passes by.
Used to manage assets that only need room level identification.

Q

What are At-Risk Human Perimeter Systems?

A

At-risk human perimeter systems are designed to alert medical staff when a sensor attached to a patient passes outside the allowed area.
Categorized into two major groups:
- Supervised care facilities utilize systems designed to protect patients from wandering or elopement
- baby alert systems are designed for use in nursery and birthing medical units to protect babies from abduction and pairing the correct infant with the parents
