Chapter 19 Flashcards
In a large scale incident requiring many resources, the resource unit within
the planning section will develop a demobilization pan
IC works with the planning section
to evaluate on scene resources and compare then to the present activity and needs
Fire fighter fatigue must be considered
in the demobilization plan
Fatigued personnel tend to
lose their perspective on safe operations because of their desire to finish and return to quarter as quickly as possible
The health and welfare of the fire fighters are
essential to successful and safe fire operations
As the IC begins the process of demobilizing personal and resources, it is
essential to determine the most immediate needs of the incident
Critical review
is the post incident analysis. It step by step approach to examine how the incident developed
PIA should focus on
Personnel
Equipment
Resources
Operational effectiveness
The purpose of the PIA (Postincident analysis) is to
focus on reinforcing the most appropriate and effective strategies while dis courting inappropriate or impulsive strategies
There are two steps of the postinicident analysis
the first is the informal company level discussion
The second formal PIA is a scheduled event for those required to attend and participate.
The company level PIA
allows the members to express what went right in the operation, what tactics worked and how. This process should be a positive experience meant to improve the members thought process and decision making abilities
The company level PIA she be held
regardless of the time available. Make the the session a positive, constructive learning experience. Leave criticism and blame out of it.
The formal PIA must focus on
the entire incident and not dwell on any single aspect.
For types of CISM
- the peer defusing that occurs at the scene
- Onsite defusing, sometimes used during longterm operational incidents of major proportions
- the defusing that takes place after demobilization from major incident. emergency responders are sent to a neutral site.
- formal debriefing that commonly occurs sometime after the incident.
CISD function of the CISM provides
a supportive environment for the participants to recognize that they are having normal feelings and reactions.
