Describe the esophagus.
A
It is a hollow, highly distensible muscular tube that extends from the epiglottis
in the pharynx to the gastroesophageal junction.
Acquired diseases of the esophagus run the
gamut from highly lethal cancers to the persistent “heartburn” that may be chronic and
incapacitating or merely an occasional annoyance
