Chapter 17 Flashcards
What is a point to point network?
A point to point network is the connection between only two computers
What is a bus network?
In a bus network there are more computers connected but there is no direct connection between any pair of end-systems
What is a ring connection?
In a ring connection each end-system has a point-to-point connection to the two adjacent end system
What happens in a mesh network?
In a mesh connection each-end system is connnected
What could be an exampe of an end-sytem
A compute could be an example of an end-system
What is a star topology?
Each end system hasa point to point connection.
Which are the isolated topologies and which one is the dominant one?
The isolated topologies are: - Point to point network - Bus network - Ring connection - Mesh network - Star topology The dominant one is the star topology.
Which are the four communication and transportation concepts?
- Data flow models
- Message types
- Transmission modes
- Packet-switching services
Which are the data-flow models?
- Simplex
- Half-duplex
- Duplex
Which are the message types?
Brodacast - one to all communication
Multicast - from one source to many destinations
Unicast - one-to-one communication
Transmission modes?
- Circuit switching
- Packet switching
