Chapter 16 Data Centers Flashcards
(32 cards)
What is a data center
A networked group of servers in a dedicated space, that provides data storage, web hosting, application hosting, cloud services, and more for remote client organizations
What are floor plans
Documents that include info about the rooms where the equipment resides, as well as details about the racks, servers, aisles, outlets, etc. that are in each room
What is a logical network diagrams
Shows how devices communicate with each other and the flow of information
What does the distribution layer/ aggregation layer do
Interconnects and distributes data to all the systems, acting as the connection between access layer and the core layer
Describe the functions of a Distribution layer switches
Usually multilayer and conducts forwarding from layer 2 to layer 3
What is a module
A group of switches
What is a pod
A group of modules that share the same connection to their distribution switches
What is a backbone
The interconnections that act as the point of connection to the external connections
What are traffic flows
The movement of the data into/out of and around the data center
What is North-south traffic
data moving into and out of the data center
What is northbound traffic
traffic that leaves the data center
What is southbound traffic
traffic enters the data center
What kind of devices are involved in north-south bound traffic
edge routers, edge firewalls, and load balancers
What is east-west traffic
any traffic that moves between systems within the data center
What devices are involved in east-west traffic
internal routers, internal firewalls, and switches
What is a Storage Area Network (SAN)
a network that connects individual systems to a centralized bank of mass storage
What is multipathing
more than one connection or path between the server and the SAN
What is multipathing
more than one connection or path between the server and the SAN
Describe a spine and leaf design
Every spine switch connects to every leaf switch in a two tiered mesh network
What is load balancing
The sharing among two or more systems the effort to enable some process to work
What is clustering
Multiple pieces of equipment, such as servers, connected in a manner that appears to the user ans the network as one logical device, providing data and services to the organization
What is redundancy
ensuring high availability on many levels through the use of additional equipment
What are first hop redundancy protocols (FHRP)
Protocols that support (HA) and redundancy
What are physical network diagrams
diagrams that map out physical aspects of the data center
