What is psychotherapy ?
A psychological intervention designed to help people resolve emotional, behavioural, and interpersonal problems and improve the quality of their lives
What are paraprofessionals ?
People with no professional training who provide mental health services
What is insight therapies ?
A form of psychotherapy where the goal is to expand awareness or insight
What is Psychodynamic Therapy ?
Analyze avoided thoughts and feelings, wishes, fantasies, and significant past events
What is Psychoanalysis ?
Tries to bring to awareness previously repressed impulses, conflicts, and memories and has a goal in decreasing guilt and frusturation
What is Free Association ?
Technique in which clients express themselves without censorship of any sort
What is resistance ?
Attempts to avoid confrontation and anxiety associated with uncovering previously repressed thoughts, emotions, and impulses
What is Transference ?
Projecting intense, unrealistic feelings
What is Neo-Fredian Tradition ?
It is more concerned with conscious aspects of the clients functioning
What is interpersonal therapy ?
Treatment that strengthens social skills and targets
What is Humanistic Psychotherapy ?
Emphasizes development of human potential and belief that human nature is basically postitive
What is Person-Centred Therapy ?
Centers on the clients goals and ways of solving problems
What is Gestalt Therapy ?
Aim to integrate differing and sometimes opposing aspects of our personality into a unified sense of self
What are Group Therapies ?
Refers to therapies that treat more than one person at a time
How are strategic family interventions designed ?
Designed to remove barriers to effective communication
