disoriented
the state of being unable to answer basic questions about person, place, or time; a state of confusion
Unresponsive
a person who is unconscious and cannot be aroused or conscious but not responsive when spoken to or touched
Basic life support
basic emergency care techniques, such as rescue breathing, and CPR
Respiratory arrest
the condition where breathing has stopped
Responsibilities as a nursing assistant during an emergency:
-recognize an emergency exists
- decide to act
- check for consciousness
- activate your facilities emergency response system
- provide care until the emergency response personnel arrive
- record the care you provided

What are the signs of a myocardial infarction (heart attack)?
- pain, pressure, and tightness in the chest
- pale, blue, grayish skin color
- excessive sweating
- trouble breathing
-nausea or heartburn like pain
what are the signs of cerebrovascular accident/ stroke ?
-unconscious or difficult to arouse from sleep
- confused or disoriented
- speech is off
- drooling
-drooping mouth
- severe headaches
What are the signs of fainting or syncope?
- hunger
- pain
- emotion
- fatigue
What are the signs of seizures or convulsions?
-infections
- high fever
- head injuries
- low blood sugar
- epilepsy
Epilepsy
a disorder characterized by chronic seizure activity
Hemorrhage
severe, uncontrolled bleeding
Pulse points
the points where the large arteries run close enough to the surfaces of the skin to be felt as a pulse
Cardiogenic shock
can occur after a heart attack because the heart is too weak to pump enough blood throughout the body to meet the tissues need to oxygen
