Chapter 1.5: Types of Pressure Control Valve Flashcards
what does a relief valve do?
limit the amount of pressure being exerted on a confined liquid
why is a relief valve needed?
prevent failures of components or rupture of hydraulic lines under high pressure
what is cracking pressure?
pressure which valve just beings to let oil escape through the relief valve
what is full flow pressure?
pressure needed to pass all of the output flow of pump through relief valve
what is pressure override?
difference between full flow and cracking pressure for any valve
what is a thermal relief valve?
relieve excessive pressure due to thermal expansion of fluid
where is thermal relief valve located?
between selector valve and actuator
what are the purposes of a pressure regulator?
1) manage the output of pump to maintain system operating pressure within a range
2) permit pump to be unloaded through regulator and back to reservoir
what is a pressure-reducing valve for?
lowers the system pressure by a specific amount
what are the indicating system for hydraulics systems?
1) quantity transmitter
2) low level float switch
3) pressure sensors
4) pressure switch
5) temperature sensor
what is the quantity transmitter for?
quantity of reservoir displayed to see if theres sufficient fluid
what is low level float switch for?
warnings to crew that fluid level has reached allowed minimum
what is pressure sensor for?
measure actual system pressure delivered by pump
what is pressure switch for?
indicate if pump is delivering intended pressure
what is temperature sensor for?
monitoring of hydraulic fluid temperature of system
