What is a recall?
What are the three types?
When a company issue a recall?
- A recall is when a violative food product is removed from the market
- Class I- When product being recalled will most likely cause serious or fatal adverse health effects
Class II- The product may cause contains adverse health effects but is rarely serious - Class III-The product is not likely to cause any adverse health effects
What is the recall plan required for?
What format should it be in?
What steps must it take to assign responsibility to?
- For any food product that contains a hazard that requires a preventive control
- Must be written before hazard occurs
- Must assign responsibility to specific team members to take the following steps:
- Notify the public (only in class I)
- Notify customers and consignees and how to return or dispose of product
- Conduct effectiveness checks
- Carry out disposition of food»get rid of it
What are some common elements of a recall plan
- Defined roles and responsibilities
- Which lot it is and where it’s located
