Great Schism
A division in the medieval Roman Catholic Church, during which rival pipes were established in Avignon and Rome
John Wycliffe
An Englishman who preached that Jesus, not the pope, was the head of the church. He disagreed with the wealth the clergy had and inspired an English translation of the New Testament
Jan Hus
A professor in Bohemia who taught that the authority of the Bible was higher than that of the pope. In 1412 he was excommunicated, in 1414 he was seized by the church and tried as a heretic, then burned at the stake in 1415.

A deadly disease that spread across Asia and Europe in the med 14th century, killing millions of people

Joan of arc
A French peasant girl who heard voices of saints and saw visions encouraging her to drive the English out of France. She led the French army into a battle near Orleans in which they won. After seeing Charles VII crowned, Joan was captured by the Burgundians and handed over to the English who handed her over to the church. On May 30, 1431, Joan was burned at the stake due to her accusation of being a witch and a heretic due to her claim of hearing voices
