Chapter 14- light Flashcards
what is the angle of incidence equal to?
the angle of reflection
what is a real image?
an image that light rays pass through. created using convex lenses when an object is placed in from of Helens at a distance greater then the focal point
what is a virtual image?
an image that light rays cannot pass through. created using convex lenses when an object is placed in front of the lens at the distance less than the focal point.
what is refraction caused by?
the change in direction of a wave, because of transmission mediums
what does transparent mean?
when light passes in a straight line, so you can see clearly through it
what does translucent mean?
materials that let some light in, but they scatter in different directions, so you cannot see clearly through them
what does opaque mean?
materials that do not let light through them, they absorb the light and therefore don’t let the light to be transmitted through them.
what is a converging lens?
a convex lens, the rays come together after going through the lens. the focal point is after travelling through the lens.
what is a diverging lens?
a concave lens, when the rays spread after the lens. the focal point is before going through the lens. a concave and convex lens are the opposite of each other.
