chapter 10- forces and motion Flashcards
what is newton’s first law?
an object that is at rest will stay at rest, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force
what is newton’s second law?
the acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on an object, and inversely proportional to the mass
how is force worked out?
mass * acceleration
what happens wage terminal velocity reaches its highest point?
because the weight and the air resistance stay the same, so it falls at a constant rate
what can affect thinking and breaking distance?
the thinking distance can be affected by alcohol, distractions, tiredness and size
breaking distance can be affected by the conditions of the brakes, the weather, and the road surface
how is momentum calculated?
mass * velocity
the bigger the car…
the more force is needed to stop it
how do you work out force?
change in momentum/ time
why do boxers wear gloves?
because then it increases the time of impact, so they don’t get too hurt
what is Hooke’s law?
when there is force applied to a stretched object, then there is extension
