Why did King Henry VIII break away from the Catholic Church?
King Henry VIII wanted a new wife, though his motive also combined personal, political, social, and economic elements.
Who was King Henry VIII married to and why is it significant?
King Henry VIII was married to Catherine of Aragon, who was a widow of his older brother Arthur, which was againt the canon law. Their marriage left them with a daughter. Henry thought that God was showing his displeasure by denying him a son. It’s also wrong to get divorced if you go to a Cathloic church.
How many wives had King Henry VIII had?
- First, he married to Catherine, but coulnd’t get a desired son. Then he married to Anne Boleyn. She failed to get a son twice and was beheaded. His third wife finally gave him a son but she died in childbirth. Henry later went on having 3 more wives.
What happened to the monks and nuns in England?
King Henry VIII ended the monastic life. He dispersed all monks and nuns and confiscated thier land.
Which countries remained Catholic?
Ireland, Southern part of Holy Roman Empire, France, Spain, Italy, etc.
What book did Thomas Canner wrote? What was it’s significants?
He wrote the Book of Common Prayer. It was written in 1549 and was later approved by the parliament. The book includedthe orders for all services and prayers of the Church of England.
What happened to Catherine of Aragon’s daughter, Mary?
She married to Phillip II of Spain, or Charles V’s son. She wanted to revive and restore Roman Catholicism. During her reign, she killed several thousand Protestants. Many protestants later fled the country.

Who is John Calvin?
He studied law. In 1533, he experienced a religious crisis which led him to convert into Protestant. Calvin believed that God specifically chosed him to reform the church.
What is Calvinism?
Calvin believe that men and women cannot actively work to achieve salvation but it was chosing by God during the beginning of time who to be saved and who to be damned.
