Chapter 14 Flashcards
Trial
each occasion upon which we observe a random phenomenon
Outcome
At each trial, we note the value of the random phenomenon, and call that the trial’s outcome
Event
When we combine outcomes
Sample Space
The collection of all possible outcomes
Law of Large Numbers
As the number of independent trials increases, the long-run relative frequency of repeated events get closer and closer to a single value
Independent
The outcome of one trial doesnt affect the outcomes of the other.
Empirical Probability
the definition of probability
Addition Rule
you can add the probabilities of events that are disjoint
Multiplication Rule
for independent events, to find the probability that both events occur, we multiply the probabilities together.
Independence Assumption
that each variable is independent of each other
