When and what was the aim of cominform
September 1947. The aim was to coordinate different communist governments in Eastern europe and communist parties in western europe.
When and what did comecon do?
Jan 1949. Countries in comecon would exchange economic experiences, extend technical aid and render mutual assistance for raw materials, food stuff, machines and equipment
What are salami tactics?
Methods used by the soviets to remove non communists through rigged elections, intimidation, arrests, show trials and purges. Only communist parties close to stalin were allowed to gain power
explain the sovietisation of Poland, 1947
The non-communist polish people’s party was formed. In the 1947 elections, there was massive election fraud by the communists, denying the London poles of victory. The deputy prime minister of the London poles resigned in protest and communists proceeded to take total control of the government
Explain the sovietisation of Bulgaria 1947
a communist party called The Fatherland front gained power during the October 1946 elections and restricted the activities of other parties in 1947. The leader of the Peasant’s front was accused of plotting a coup and hung to death. Communists gained power. Georgi Dimotrov formed the new government dominated by communists.
Explain the sovietisation of Czechoslovakia in 1948
There was a communist coup which forced non-communist leaders to resign. Jan Masaryk (foreign minister) was found mysteriously dead. By 1948 the communist completed their coup.
Explain the sovietisation of Hungary in 1947
ferenc Nagy and a right wing party won the October 1945 elections but were forced to set up a coalition government that included the communists. The communists forced non-communist members to resign and a purge was carried out by the communists security forces . Nagy resigned in exchnage for his son who was kidnapped. The Hungarian communists then won the elections in 1947
