Chapter 13 - Reasoning and Decision Making Flashcards
Antecedent
the “if” term
Base rate
the relative proportions of different categories in the population
Conjunction rule
the joint probability of two events is less than or equal to the probability of either event alone
Decision making
a process by which people make choices between alternatives
Falsification principle
to test a rule, look for situations that would falsify the rule
Framing effect
tendency for decisions to be influenced by how they are stated (framed)
Gambler’s fallacy
mistaken belief that the probability of a random event in the short run will match its probability in the long run
Law of large numbers
the larger the sample size, the more representative a sample will be of the population from which it was chosen
