Chapter 13: Mechanical Engineering Flashcards
What is a link?
Any part such as a nail or staple, or any fluid such as glue, that holds together a technical object performs a
mechanical function
What is a direct link?
Two parts hold together without a linking component
What is a indirect link?
Two things that require a link to be together
What is a rigid link?
A link where its compnets are rigid
What is a flexible link?
a linking component that can be deformed
what is a remouvable link?
Remouving said link would not damgage the stucture
what is a non remuvable link?
removing the link would damage the componets being linked
what is a complete link?
Link that pervents the linked parts from moving independently (one part cannot move without the other part moving)
What is a partial link?
Link allows parts to move independently from one another
Name the two degrees of freedom?
Translational and Rotational
What is Tx, Ty, and Tz.
Tx: left to right/right to left
Ty: top to bottem/ bottem to top
Tz: front to back/back to front
what is Rx, Ry, Rz?
Rx: rotation around the x axis.
Ry: rotation around the y axis.
Rz: rotation around the z axis.
What are the three types of guiding components?
Type 1: Translational Guid
Type 2: Rotational guide
TYpe 3: Hellicle guide
What is a translational guide?
Straight line motion
What is a rotational guide?
Rotational motion (weel)
