Characteristics of absolute rule
believed that their rule came from god. divine right from god. does not consider the parliamentary in any decision making. Sole decider. Parliamentary monarchy will consider the parliament in ALL decision making.
Characteristics of and facts about James I, his rule and relationship with the parliament.
1603-1625. son of Mary queen of Scots. known as king James VI in Scotland. Elizabeth left England in great turmoil with plenty of religious division. He’s been born and raised as a catholic but converted to Protestantism to keep the peace. King James did many things without the parliaments permission. Allowed the Duke of buckingham to sell positions which angered parlament greatly. First Stuart monarch.
Reasons for suspicion of James I foreign policy
Instituted a foreign peace with spain in 1604. Relaxes penal laws against Catholics. in 1618 when the 30 years war occurred he was reluctant to help with the protestant cause.
Charles I extra parliamentary measures.
collected taxes that haven’t been used for decades, forced the people to house the military, Just bullied the people which angered the parliament.
The petition of right
1628 Charles I wanted to charge the people more takes. The parliament says no until he can sign a document which returns the parliaments power and limits the power of Charles I. He signs it but regrets it a year later. Retaliated by dissolving the parliament.

bishops war 1639-1640- scotland revolted because of the archduke William of laud.
Facts about the long parlament
1640-1660 lasted 20 years
consisted of 3 groups, protestants, merchants, conservative Anglicans.
The tyreal act agreed that they would meet every 3 years at least.
