Describe the interview technique for clinical assessment and 3 types
- the clinician learns about the patient and establishes a therapeutic contract
1. A stress interview: Client is in a situation of stress to measure an aspect of their personality
2. Cognitive interview: Interviewee will use imagery and focuses on memory retreival to recall relevant information
3. Collaborative: an interactive interview to discover or clarify together some form of measure
What are 4 areas a clinician may take note on and behaviors that fall into these categories ?
- Behavior
- biting nails, eyes moving a lot, fidgeting on chair etc. - Memory
- can they recall events appropriately - Insight
- are they aware of what they are doing in therapy, and why they are there - Personality
- are there distinct traits like narcissism or shyness
What are some cultural aspects that must be considered in an interview?
- to what extent does this individual feel different from other people?
- Is this sense of difference a problem for the individual ?
- What conflicts are present in regards to assimilation ?
- Does racism play a role in this persons adjustment ?
What is the acronym ADRESSING?
age, disability, race, elderly, SES, Sexual orientation, Indigenous, national origin and gender
What are some cultural factors in suicide rates?
- middle age and older adults have higher rates
- Men use more lethal means while women self harm more
- LGBT youth have a higher likelihood of committing suicide
- ## Indigenous individuals have higher rates
What are some risk factors? What are some protective facts ?
Risk: previous attempts, pattern of destructive behavior, depression or anxiety, family history of mental illness, co-morbidity, chronic stress
Protective: strong social support, good family relationship, intervention (therapy)
What is the C-SSRS?
A semi-structured interview broken down into 3 parts: suicidal ideation, intensity of ideation and suicidal behavior
