Define drug.
Any substance, other than food, that affects bodily functions and structures when taken into the body
Define toxicity.
“Poisonousness; the dosage level at which a drug becomes poisonous to the body, causing either temporary or permanent damage.”
Define drug misuse.
Use of a drug for a purpose (or person) other than which it was medically intended
List the ways that drugs enter into the body. List how long it takes for the drugs to enter the body for each way.
Oral Dosage – 0 minutes to feel the drug
Inhalation – Less than 10 seconds to feel the drug
Subcutaneous Injection – About 10 minutes to feel the drug
Intramuscular Injection – Feel the drug within a few minutes
Intravenous Injection – Feel the drug immediately

Mild sense of euphoria, sense of slowed time, dreamy type of self-absorption, some impairment in thinking and communicating.
What are the symptoms of marijuana withdrawal syndrome?
insomnia, restlessness, loss of appetite, and irritability.
What are the negative long-term effects of marijuana on the body?
Dulls sensory and cognitive skills
Impairs short term memory
Leads to difficulty in concentration, attention to detail, and learning new complex information
Increases heart rate and blood pressure
Increases risk for lung cancer
How do users feel when taking synthetic marijuana?
elevated mood
relaxation
altered perception – but can be more intense
What are the side effects of synthetic marijuana?
agitation nausea paranoia anxiety dizziness confusion.

Users feel intense stimulation, alertness, euphoria, and increased sociability, and sex drive.
What are the side effects of bath salts?
Adverse side effects include paranoia, agitation, and hallucinations
What are the psychological and physical effects of ecstasy?
Psychological difficulties such as confusion, depression, and sleep problems
Physical symptoms such as involuntary teeth clenching, nausea, blurred vision, and rapid eye movement.
