Chapter 11 Structure and nomenclature of organic compounds Flashcards
1
Q
Dispersion forces
A
A very weak force of attraction between molecules caused by temporary dipoles induced in the molecules. The temporary dipoles are the result of random fluctuations in the electron density.
2
Q
Dipole-dipole attractions
A
A form of inter-molecular force that occurs between polar molecules where the positively-charged end of one molecule is attracted to the negatively-charged end of a neighbouring molecule.
