If employee is injured, they are entitled to
reasonable medical care and compensation for lost time if not able to work.
Off work means
off of all work, not just the workplace injury site.
How would you handle a situation where you get hurt at work
Provide first aid care first. Notify supervisor right away. Fill out an injury/incident report. Things to expect Medical evaluation Drug screen Update on immunizations, if needed – i.e.. Tetanus Work restrictions, if necessary If there is no light duty positions, you will not be able to work.

Each injury has to be logged
Log includes time off work, resolution of safety issue, etc.

Prevent or control exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials
Can be inspected by OSHA anytime
Will look at many things including HBV vaccination status of employees and post exposure evaluation.

Engineering controls
Needle sticks and cuts and incidence of exposures
Protective equipment available and used

- Programmed inspection
- Follow-up to determine if violations were corrected

When does OSHA rarely inspect office
They don’t inspect offices very often
They don’t inspect offices of fewer than 10 employees
Clinical Lab Improvement Act – 1993

Inspections focus on that and providing education regarding accepted lab procedures
Each lab has to be CLIA certified
