Chapter 11 Flashcards
Anaphylactic shock
Severe shock caused by an allergic reaction
Aneurysm
Swelling of an artery resulting in a weakened arterial wall
Autonomic nervous system
Nervous system that regulates involuntary activities
Cardiac tamponade
Pressure of the heart resulting from build up of blood on the pericardial sac
Cardiogenic shock
Not enough O2 is being delivered to body tissues. Caused by low output of blood to the heart.
Compensated shock
Early stage of shock body can compensate for blood loss
Decompensated shock
Late stage of shock when blood pressure is dropping
Distributive shock
Widespread dilation of the small arterioles , small venules or both
Hypovolemic shock
Shock caused by fluid or blood loss
Neurogenic shock
Circulatory failure caused by paralysis of the nerves that control the size of the blood vessels, leading to widespread dilation
Obstructive shock
Shock that occurs when there is a block to the blood flow of the heart or great vessels causing insufficient blood supply to the body’s tissue
Perfusion
The flow of blood through body tissues and vessels
Psychogenic shock
Shock caused by a sudden empires reduction in blood supply to the brain that causes fainting
Syncope
Fainting
Pulmonary embolism
Blood clot in the heart causing obstructed blood flow
