A

Two New York newspapers were locked in a battle to sell the most newspapers and they used the Cuban revolt to make up ever more sensational stories. Stories were heavily anti Spanish and clearly untrue this created a deep resentment towards the Spanish.

A

American warship uss maine exploded in Havana. The first investigation concluded it was a result of the Spanish mines. Second investigation said it could have been cause of sparks.
Did not matter newspapers had made up their mind and the Spanish were blamed and
Revenge was called.
