Choice theory believes that internally motivated behavior is directed toward one or more of our basically encoded needs (6)
Survival, Love and Belonging, Power, Freedom, Fun, Purpose.
Consists of our visions of specific people, activities, events, beliefs, and situations that will fulfill our needs; like a photo album
Quality world
Mistakenly choosing misery in attempt to meet our needs
Paining behavior
Places an emphasis on personal responsibility.

Avoids focusing on symptoms and rejects transferrence.

Primary goal is to help clients get connected/reconnected with the people they have chosen to put in their quality world.

1. Creating the counseling environment
2. Implementing specific procedures that lead to changes in behavior.

Used to help clients explore their wants, possible things they can do, opportunities for self-evaluation, and design plans for improvement.
