Groups VS Teams
Group: People with similar characteristics
Team: People with different characteristics and tasks but share the same goal or project
Stages of team development
1.Forming (Organizing members and assigning tasks)
2. Storming (Clarify team goals and how people will achieve them)
3. Norming (Developing shared values and methods of communication)
4. Performing (Members work interdependently)
5. Adjourning (Team is disbanded, optional if project is perpetual)
Types of Teams
Manager-Led: More control, but less creativity and indv. expression
Self-Managed: Group sets its own goals, roles and evaluations
Cross-Functional: Members come from different parts of the company
Virtual Teams: Reduces costs, supports globalization, and greater flexibility
Project Group: members are from different groups but collaborate on one project and then will disband
Barriers to effective communication
