Q

What are three possible approaches for professional associations to ensure that their licensed professionals maintain their professional competence?

A
  1. Self-compliance gives professionals the personal responsibility for ensuring they are professionally competent.
  2. Professional Development is a system whereby the professional association, through regulation or by-law, sets minimum continuing educational requirements for its members in
order for them to maintain certification or licensing.
  3. A Practice Review is a thorough review of the professional’s practice at their place of employment. The intent of the review is to coach and assist the professional rather than judge. Members can be selected for review by random selection, as a result of a complaint, or by a systematic selection process.
