What are the benefits of stronger incentive intensities?

What is the ratchet effect?
refers to a situation where workers subject to performance pay choose to restrict their output because they rationally anticipate that firms will respond to higher output levels by raising output requirements or by cutting pay
What is the principal-agent problem?
a problem that arises when an agent(employee) acts on behalf of a principal (firm’s owner), but has different objectives
