Chapter 10- Independent Samples T-test Flashcards
When is an Independent Samples T test done?
An independent samples t test is conducted when a researchers is comparing two independent samples, between groups design
What is the difference between the independent t test and paired samples t test
The differences between the paired samples and independent samples are that the paired samples is a within groups design and the independent is a between groups design. In the paired groups, the researcher looks at the difference between two scores taken from the same subjects; the independent compare sample means (differences between means NOT scores). For the independent t test, each participant is assigned to only one condition.
What is a researcher looking at when he uses the independent t test?
When a researcher uses the independent t test, he is looking at difference between two independent groups- a distribution of difference between means
What is pooled variance?
Pooled variance is a weighted average of the two estimates of variance, one from each sample that are calculated when conducting an independent samples t test.
