Chapter 10- Cooperation Flashcards
Apparatus used to test cooperation
In chimps, a box containing food was used. The reward could only be unlocked using a thin stick in the top part of the apparatus. Two chimps had to exchange tools in order to open the box and obtain the food. In elephants, an elephant was trained to reach a plate of food by pulling on a rope. When put in pairs, elephants learned to work together to pull the rope so they could both obtain food, and they waited for their partners when release time was staggered.
Cooperation
Refers to an outcome in which two or more interacting individuals each receives a benefit from their joint actions
