What is the ‘Promoting world peace and security’ focus of the UN?
Focuses on the maintenance of international peace and security, and explores ways in which conflict can be resolved, aiming for the most peaceful situation. When decisions are made all member states of the UN are expected to respect and support the Council’s recommendations. The council may: issue a ceasefire, send military observers/peacekeepers, implement economic sanctions, establish a blockade or initiate collective military action.
What is the ‘Promoting Human Rights’ focus of the UN?
Focuses on strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe, and focuses on addressing situations of human rights violations and making recommendations on them. It acts to ensure that human rights are upheld and assists by providing expertise and technical training in the areas of administration of justice, legal reform and electoral processes. When human rights are abused, they make recommendations to member states to take action and may include policy changes, sanctions and military action.
What is the ‘Providing humanitarian assistance’ focus of the UN?
Focuses on providing emergency humanitarian aid to needed areas such as food and water, shelter, medical attention and support to the affected people. They work to raise billions of dollars from international donors and appeals, and coordinate their response to various crises through all the key humanitarian bodies including UNICEF, UNDP, WFP and UNHCR
What is the ‘Promoting social and economic development’ focus of the UN?
Focuses on assisting governments in implementing policies , programs and strategies that aim to improve economic and social conditions, including promoting higher standards of living, promoting trade opportunities and encouraging universal respect for human rights. The World Bank works to enhance the economies of developing countries by working with governments and businesses in those countries and providing loans.

The WHO works to provide leadership in engaging and supporting countries to respond to a range of global health issues and improve the health the health of their citizens.

The WHO will respond to demands from countries seeking practical advice on how to take universal health coverage forward.
What is the aim/focus of the ‘International Health Regulation (2005)’ WHO priority?
It aims to maintain a role of leadership in establishing the systems that make up the global defence against shocks coming from the microbial world.
How does the WHO plan on achieving the International Health Regulation priority?
It plans to support countries to put in place the capacities required by the International Health Regulations (2005) and report on progress. They also plan to strengthen their own systems and networks to ensure a rapid and well-coordinated response to public health emergencies

It aims to achieve equity in public health depends on access to essential, high-quality and affordable medical technologies. Improving access to medical products is central to the achievement of universal health coverage.

The WHO plan to continue to improve access to safe, quality, affordable and effective medicines. They plan to support innovation for affordable health technology, local production, and national regulatory authorities

It aims to improve people’s health outcomes and increase healthy life expectancy by providing action across the range of contextual factors associated with ill health as well as inequitable health outcomes.
