Chapter 10 Flashcards
How do you calculate surface area ?
Length x Width x 6 sides of the cube.
What is a limit to cell growth ?
The larger a cell becomes the more demands the cell place on its DNA. So the cell would have more trouble moving nutrients and waste across the cell membrane.
How do you calculate volume ?
Length x Width x Height
How do you calculate ratio ?
You have to figure out how many times the volume multiplies to equal the surface area. Example 24cm/8cm would have a ratio of 3:1.
What is cell division ?
Before a cell get to large, it will create two daughter cells by the process of cell division.
What is mitosis ?
The first stage of cell division, the division of the nucleus.
What is cytokinesis?
The division of cytoplasm
What are centromeres ?
An area in the chromatids where chromatids attach to.
What is interphase?
Period of the cell cycle between cell divisions .
What is the cell cycle ?
The series if events that cells go thorough as they grow and divide.
What’s happens during prophase ?
The chromosomes become visible
What is a spindle ?
A fanlike micro tube structure that helps separate the chromosomes.
What is metaphase ?
The chromosomes line up in the center of the cell
What is anaphase ?
The centromeres that join the sister chromatids split into 2 separate chromosomes that continue to move seperately to the opposite poles
What is telophase?
The chromosomes begin to disperse into a tangle of dense material
