what are the types of physical activity?
play, games, sports, transportation, chores, exercise and recreational activities.
what is the definition of play? give an example.
play is any activity undertaken for enjoyment and recreation, this could include swimming and climbing.
what is the definition of games? give an example.
a game is an activity that requires physical skill and engages for amusement, this can include partaking in target shooting.
what is the definition of sports? give an example.
activities involving physical exertion and skill, in which an individual or team competes against each other in competition, an example of this could be playing a game of netball.
what is the definition of transportation? give an example.
the travel between destinations in a physical manner, this could include walking, cycling, ect.
what is the definition of chores? give an example.
any routine task, this can involve, gardening, cleaning or vacuuming.
what is the definition of exercise? give an example.
activities requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or improve health and fitness, an example of this can include participating in a workout.
what is the definition of recreational activities? give an example.
recreational activities are leisure activities that include outside, work or study commitments.
what is physical inactivity?
this refers to the lack of involvement in physical activity during an individuals leisure time.
what is sedentary behaviour? what does this involve?
sedentary behaviour is, behaviour associated with sitting or lying down, including activities such as watching tv, working or driving.
list the MET principals:
MET 1-2: sitting or lying
MET 3-6: moderate intensity activity
MET 7+: vigorous intensity activity
what are enablers and barriers?
enablers are something or someone who makes it possible for a particular thing to be done.
barriers are something or someone that prevents progress or makes it difficult for someone to achieve something.
what is an enabler and barrier in regards to individual factors?
enabler: having knowledge about physical and sedentary behaviour.
barrier: not having enough time/ availability.
what is an enabler and barrier in regards to social factors?
enabler: having others help to provide access to physical activity through transport.
barrier: peer groups can be influential whether or not a person participates in physical activity.
what is an enabler and barrier in regards to cultural factors?
enabler: multiple languages to be understood.
barrier: potential racial discrimination dependent on race.
